Gardenia
Gardenia jasminoides

🌿 Description
A classic evergreen shrub loved for its glossy dark-green leaves and pure white, highly fragrant flowers. Blooming mainly from late spring through summer, it fills gardens, terraces, and entrances with its rich, sweet scent.

🏡 In the Garden
Ideal near entrances, patios, seating areas, and windows where its fragrance can be enjoyed. Excellent in pots and planters, as a low hedge, or as a refined accent in shaded corners and courtyard gardens.

☀️ Light
Prefers bright light with morning sun and afternoon shade. In hot coastal areas, protection from strong midday sun prevents leaf scorch and flower drop.

🌡️ Climate & Elevation
Best suited to mild coastal and lower mountain areas of Lebanon, generally from sea level to around 700–800 m. It may succeed higher in sheltered, warm spots, but cold winds and repeated frost can damage leaves and buds. Reliable outdoor hardiness generally corresponds to USDA Zones 8–11.

💧 Watering
Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Avoid letting it dry out completely, especially during flowering and hot summer months.

✂️ Maintenance
Prune lightly after flowering to keep a neat, compact shape. Remove faded flowers to keep the plant tidy. Feed regularly during the growing season with a fertilizer for acid-loving plants.

💡 Plant Express Tip
Gardenia loves slightly acidic soil. In Lebanon's chalky soils or with hard water, yellowing leaves are common, so use an acidic potting mix and an iron (chelate) supplement to keep the foliage deep green and the blooms abundant.
